Nostalgia Thread: Look what I found

So I found these the other day. For context, waaaay back in the distant past mumble was not the ubiquitous tool that it is now, in fact that only really came about when mumble was automagically included alongside the PR installer (when was that anyone?). When I started playing properly in 2009~ there were a couple of servers that encouraged mumble, and one that enforced it.

So if you wanted to communicate with another squad leader directly you would have to set up a custom keybind in Teamspeak or whatever voip programme you were using. Which obviously would only be a thing in clan matches or tournaments, hence the following:

PRT C9 NATO Alpha(?) circa 2010:

TART 1 (Teamwork and Reality Tournament yes we were very good at naming things shut up) circa 2011:

Re: Nostalgia Thread: Look what I found

ow the wonderful keybinding of TS Whispers.

To be honest mumble didn't really completely replace that, if only would be smart about how comms should be managed. A great example is: create a whisper key for your squad medic and have him setup a whisper back function that allows him to whisper back to the last guy that whispered to him. That alone reduces squad comms a bunch...

Lots of nicknames in those papers should come back and give the new PRT a go! Well, except for one or two names

Re: Nostalgia Thread: Look what I found

Yeah, I have a few photos like that.

Sq1 - Rex
Sq2 - PumpHammer etc

Officer meetings were half battleplan discussion and half whisper checks. When we first introduced mumble as a tool for all the grunts in CATA (maybe C8). The original plan for grunts was:

Grunt1 "mumble?"
Grunt2 "Mumble"
Grunt1 [Actual local comms message]
etc

The squad leaders had so many comms to think about we didn't want grunts to miss squad comms. Back when squad comms were tight as shit and people used spotted vs contact, reported distance every time etc. But I digress.

Good times.

Re: Nostalgia Thread: Look what I found

We had key bindings last tournament and most people hated setting them up every time. Dunno what you are talking about Lempo. :P

Last tournament? I guess that was only on MRF's side, cause I haven't heard anyone from PDI talk about that.
